Trekking in Bhutan is the best way to enjoy the beautiful landscapes, flora and fauna and majestic views of Himalayan peaks. Bhutan is indeed the secret kingdom for those who wish to see the true Himalayas in all it's rugged beauty. Mountain climbing is baned in Bhutan and the trekkers have the sense of preveleged opportunity of being in the real pristine nature. Bhutan can be defined by three main geographic zones: the Greater Himalaya, the Inner Himalaya, and the Sub-Himalaya. Within these are some of the tallest mountains in the world! Bhutan is home to twenty one peaks that are over 7,000m...the tallest of which is Gangshar Puensum standing at 7570m, close to the border with Tibet. Between these peaks lie untouched valleys filled with exotic wildlife including; tigers, snow leopards and red panda. As Bhutan operates a system where trekkers must be accompanied by a Bhutanese guide, many of the trekking routes have much less people than neighbouring Nepal and have a greater sense of remoteness; of being immersed in the mountains. Trekking in Bhutan is primarily a camping-style experience, with fully supported treks where cooks prepare meals and the support crew pitches camp before the trekkers arrive, allowing for a comfortable and immersive experience in the Himalayas. Each trekking party is accompanied by a trained guide, a cook, an assistant, and horsemen (or yaks) to carry provisions and personal belongings.
